Cambridge 10th July 1998 - Acclaimed independent engineer/producer Tchad Blake was looking for an alternative to the conventional desk-based digital audio editor because he works on a variety of projects that necessitate a fully portable system. Designed to be the equal of the renowned SADiE Disk Editor, the SADiE Portable was the perfect answer for Blake's needs.
"I've
put the SADiE Portable to the test," explains Blake who has only
recently taken delivery of the system. "It's been great - everything
I needed it to be, and more. We're mixing Sheryl Crow's latest album
at the Sound Factory [in Los Angeles] on the Portable. I've
also used it for mixing upcoming albums from Soul Coughing, Tracy
Bonham and The Latin Playboys, not to mention some of my own
projects."
Blake also does field recording for Real World Records and has a series called "Document," in which he records African, Indian and other music from around the globe. He says he now records on portable DAT and has used the Portable SADiE system for editing the next three soon-to-be released "Document" CDs.
"Now that I have the Portable, I can do the kinds of field recordings to make the records I've always wanted to do," Blake explains. "I've barely had to read the Portable's manual, it's so easy to use."
The SADiE Portable is the world's first truly portable digital audio editor. Demand for 24-bit location recording and faster newsgathering led Studio Audio to design a no - compromise portable editor. A unique system, the SADiE Portable has proved invaluable on many occasions where a desk-based system is simply impractical. The capabilities of the Portable are identical to conventional SADiE turnkey systems, with features including SADiE customised portable Pentium PC, Thin Film Technology (TFT) active matrix color screen, 4.5 gigabyte removable SADiE audio drive, built in audio monitoring system and a switchable power (110/240v)
"The portable was exactly what I was looking for," Blake says "It's like I boxed up my my original desk-based SADiE."
